Gasp

This weekend, Nov 14-16th, 2025, at Match Theatre in Houston, Texas, the dance ensemble Group Acorde will debut Gasp. I wrote the music for this work, a collaboration between three musicians and three dancers, that explores the visceral trauma of natural disasters (specifically Hurricane Harvey) through the lens of respiration and panic.

Scoring Gasp had a deep personal connection for me. While the work responds to the collective trauma of Hurricane Harvey—manifested musically through improvisation, fragmented rhythms, and dramatic pauses—it is equally a tribute to the memory of my mom, who passed away last summer after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and incurable lung disease. The music charts a journey through the most fundamental and painful human experience: the struggle for breath.
