NPR’s excellent music blog includes a running feature called “Tiny Desk Concert” in which bands perform lo-fi sets from within the station’s office. This week the site hosts a quartet from New Zealand called “Lawrence Arabia“. Perhaps Flight of the Conchords has tainted our view of musicians from down there, or at least our reaction to that accent; however, these four crooners do a fine job evolving the fictional legacy of the displaced duo with a mesh of Bon Iver (minus the melancholy) and Of Montreal. Naturally, they slather it all in quirky lyrics. I recommend the second and third tracks, particularly “Beautiful Young Crew”.
